Tasting Notes

Kastanienbusch

2016 - Kastanienbusch Riesling GG
Beautiful red slate minerality in the nose, rare terroir with notes of limestone, pear, plum, also slightly exotic fruit notes, floral and spicy flavors, on the palate straight, clean, great acidity and minerality, spices, floral elements and fruit notes of plum remain very long already. The 2016 is still quite closed but it is definitely very promising!

2011 - Birkweiler Kastanienbusch Riesling Spätlese
The nose is filled with great fruit notes of yellow stone fruit like apricots and ripe donut peach, mandraines, grapefruit also exotic elements of passion fruit. Fruity and spicy mix on the palate, slight honey notes, opulent fruit basket, wonderful spices, animating acidity. Finishes fruity and spicy, like peppered apricots.

Vom Rotliegenden

2016 - Vom Rotliegenden Riesling trocken
On of the "terroir wines" from Rebholz - one level below the #grossesgewächs ... But what you get for the roughly 18 Euros is quite impressive! Fine mineralic, herbal and spicy nose, very elegant, on the palate nice slate and limestone minerality, dancing fruit notes of citrus and grapefruit, great herbal elements, the finish is defined by the spicy acidity.

Im Sonnenschein

2016 - Im Sonnenschein Riesling GG
Maybe the Grand Cru from Rebholz with the most potential. The nose is great with limestone minerality, hardly many Rieslings with this very special mineral notes. Fruit notes still very closed on the palate, if you let it breathe for a while some citrus notes break through. Finishes very nicely with beautiful acidity. Can't wait to taste this one again in one or two years!

2016 - "Ganzhorn" im Sonnenschein Riesling Spätlese
The nose is still quite closed, after some breathing very nice limestone minerality opens, spices like red pepper, citrus notes and mandarin peel. On the palate an elegant Spätlese, great fresh acidity, great minerality-fruit-mix, mineral finish. This one has a lot of potential!

2013 - "Ganzhorn" im Sonnenschein Riesling GG
The nose is a great and ripe mix of spicy minerality and citrus notes, also ripe apples, donut peach and very nice herbs. On the palate a crisp acidity and an almost salty minerality mix, ripe fruit notes, more on the citrus and stonefruit side, like ripe yellow plums and apricots. Finishes salty, spicy with lots of citrus and grapefruit peel. Very delicious!

1996 - Im Sonnenschein Riesling Kabinett
So beautiful developed. We have to admit that there is a slight petrol note in the nose when you open it. But it immediately disappears after a bit of breathing time. Than a beautifully aged Kabinett comes into your nose with spicy, slightly mint and honey flavors, stone fruit notes, on the palate a fresh acidity, wrapped in nice minerality and beautiful notes of dried plums and cherries, it finishes very long lasting with an amazing minerality acidity balance.
